Software configuration of the bwGRiD
In the bwGRiD, the same operating system image has been installed on all nodes of the local clusters. This ensures that there will be no software issues when using the nodes as a decentralised grid.
Scientific Linux 5.5 is being used as the operating system.
Scientific Linux is serviced by CERN amongst others, and is based on RedHat 5.0 source code. The individual nodes are booted from one single image using DHCP and Bootp.
On top of the base Linux distribution, a large number of additional software packages are being used for the different research fields.
The listed programmes are subject to different license agreements and therefore may be available to certain user groups only.
Please use the command “module help PROGRAMNAME” to get information on the availability of a programme.
You can also search for a particular software and software version!
For a number of software packages there are descriptions and installation manuals available online.
